Period Delay

Travel with confidence – delay your period, not your plans.

What is Period Delay Treatment?

Sometimes you might need to delay your period, like when you travel on holiday. Our period delay service can help with that.

Period delay tablets contain a synthetic form of female hormones, similar to those in the contraceptive pill and mini pill. Usually, your period starts each month when progesterone levels drop. By keeping hormone levels high, these tablets can delay your period for up to 17 days. However, they won’t stop you from getting pregnant, so you’ll still need to use contraception, like condoms or a diaphragm.

To use period delay tablets, take one tablet three times a day. You need to start taking them three days before your period is due. After you stop taking the tablets, your period will usually start within two to three days.

How to use period delay medicine?

Start taking Norethisterone three days before your period is due to begin. Take one 5mg tablet three times a day, roughly every 8 hours. You can take norethisterone for up to 27 days. When you stop taking the tablets, your period will start 2-3 days later.

For the best results, take Norethisterone before your period starts, not after bleeding has begun. If you’re unsure when your period will start, begin taking the tablets on the earliest possible day it might begin.

Taking Norethisterone less than three days before your period or after it has started may not be as effective, and you might still experience some spotting or bleeding.

Are there any side effects of Norethisterone?

Side effects of norethisterone are rare, but you might experience some spotting, irregular bleeding, sore breasts, stomach ache, and a lower sex drive. The longer you delay your period – up to a maximum of 27 days – the more likely you will notice side effects.

Blood clots are a rare side effect of norethisterone. Stay active and well-hydrated while taking this medicine. Be aware of the symptoms of blood clots, which can occur in different parts of the body: blood clots in the leg usually show up as painful tenderness and swelling in the calf.

In the lungs and head, blood clots can cause sudden and severe chest pain, an unusually severe headache, or changes in vision. In extremely rare cases, you might experience sudden shortness of breath or a sudden inability to speak. If you notice any of these symptoms, please seek urgent medical attention.
